I grew up with The Wonderful Flight to the Mushroom Planet, which still gives me a strong adventurous and numinous frisson when I read it, but I only found the other books some time later, and apparently they didn't stick quite so well.
I bounced hard off the pilot episode, but pilots are so seldom really representative of what the show will become.
I bounced off it completely when it was airing because it was not Babylon 5, which I had already become attached to; a couple of years ago skygiants persuaded me it was worth revisiting. I've still seen more in the line of selected episodes than entire arcs, but some of those selected episodes have demonstrated to me that Armin Shimerman is a very talented guy.
