Oh great Unexpected Expensive Home Improvement/Repair, joy. We had just signed contracts for isntalling flooring in the two downstairs rooms that didn't have it (painted concrete, and crappy carpet) and then the furnace broke. On the plus side, it's 74F outside and apparently February is an excellent month to buy a furnace here, as all of the furnace companies are dead idle. On the down side, it's still a furnace, and expensive. We had the money saved up for emergency repairs, but oof.
With the flooring, I'd planned to do it myself with a friend's help (and her compound miter saw), but the price difference between that and having costco do it was less annoying than having to move all of the furniture and rip up carpet myself. The room with carpet is my office/sewing room, and is entirely lined in bookshelves that are full of either books or fabric in bins. So. Much. Stuff.)
