When I was working at the l.s. there was Sam Donnelly. He was old, and his hygiene was kind of suspect, and he really was an institution. His exam questions ALWAYS involved Peter Parker (Spiderman). He was a giver of the 'gentleman's "C"'. Well...I don't know in what context, but I mentioned to him one year that I had already seen my first robin of the spring. He said that was good luck, but to see one before St. Patrick's Day, well, that was the best. Sam passed 10 years ago. And every year when I see my first robin (usually before St. Patrick's Day) I think of Sam.
