The return to normal

Well, it's slow. But I wrote 200 words on the novel yesterday. The towing company came for the donated car, and that and the fact that Christmas is over means I have only ordinary obligations.

Well, David and I do have a 20th wedding anniversary on the 30th. We had talked of having a party, but really that is a terrible time to have a party. My mother is giving us a check that we must promise to use in mutually enjoyable frivolous pursuits, so we plan to hit a number of bookstores and go out for dinner if we have any money left. And the next day is the Minn-Stf New Year's Eve Party, with another party the day after. And I'm cat-sitting (which is actually soothing and comforting). But normality is on the horizon somewhere.

I've been slowly putting away some of the Christmas presents. Goatmilk hand lotion from David, mmmm. THE PATHS OF THE DEAD, handed to David and Lydy to negotiate over, since I've read the manuscript. THE PRIZE IN THE GAME, next up when I have had enough Peter Dickinson for a while. A small stuffed finch from Lydy, which warbles the familiar finch song when squeezed gently. A glorious book of flowers from my mother, from which I have not had the courage to remove the cellophane. Every time I think of it I have peanut butter on my hands or something.

It's going to be so warm this week that I will be able to take my cat outside. It's not natural, and trouble will probably come of it, but it's very pleasant indeed.

I've been collecting Peter Dickinson for years - and have all except a couple of stray early ones. I also managed to collect a couple of serious music books by a different Peter Dickinson as well. Anyway, if you decide you'd like to look at some of the ones you can't find (if you can't find any of them) let me know - like The City of Gold or Annerton Pit. Give me a week to dig them, up though!

What is The City of Gold? Tulku yes? Retitled? Or what?

No, City of Gold is a short story collection - short stories taken from the old testament. It's a large size book for children with illustrations.

There's a decent bibliography of Peter Dickinson at: http://www.fantasticfiction.co.uk/authors/Peter_Dickinson.htm.

Note: Marigold (on that site) is by a different Peter Dickinson.

I think my favorite is Seventh Raven

There's no such thing as a terrible time to have a party, and your house is nicely laid out for one.
