the bit of my new yard that is between the sidewalk and the street is all full of weeds right now, so i will need to make those stop and then put something else in. it has occurred to me that while the traditional thing to put in there is grass, i could do something else such as lilies, maybe.

A boulevard garden is quite nice. You don't have to be dragging the mower all the way out there all the time. Lilies don't bloom for long, but a mix of those and one or two other plants would look quite pleasant.
