Signal Boost -- Animal Rescue

Via [livejournal.com profile] ginmar:

First, in Austin, Texas, cats need a home FAST. The owner will drive up to 250 miles to deliver a cat, and it's okay to offer to just foster a cat until she can find a permanent home. Here's the link:

Second, a rescue organization for large dogs is having hard times, like many of us:

I don't generally make New Year's resolutions, but I am hoping to be better at passing on links like these, in the coming year -- not just for animal rescue, but for various splendid things that people are doing, particularly writing. For now, however, cats and dogs.

I am still working on my reports of road trips in August, October, and November, and it is very odd to be writing about blazing, humid days on the shore of Lake Superior when the snow is coming down outside.

A merry Christmas to those who celebrate, and a painless survival for those who don't, or who can't celebrate as they'd like.

I did see that (it was widely posted) but I'm not comfortable bringing another cat into the mix unless it's permanent. Nanook would get too stressed out.

I think that one of my New Year's resolutions will be to wear groucho glasses or a clown nose once/month when I run errands.

I like this paragraph: "I am still working on my reports of road trips in August, October, and November, and it is very odd to be writing about blazing, humid days on the shore of Lake Superior when the snow is coming down outside." There's something very human about that.

One of my presumed virtues is that I'm very in the moment. But what this means is that I have no imagination about the past or future. I hadn't thought about using garden catalogues, but that could do it.

I don't know about the photos. We will see. First I have to get up the nerve.

This resolution is partially inspired by the number of people I've seen wearing reindeer antlers this season. These things seem to run in waves. One year it was wreaths on truck grills.

A neighbor's car has reindeer antlers and nose.

This is the 25th year that Santa has skied National Harbor with reindeer, the Grinch, etc. He said this was the last year, though, and that next year he'll be under a palm tree on Christmas. There's always a lot of people watching, so maybe there will be a new Santa next year.

Sent the link about cats to someone I know in Austin.

Thank you very much.

I think I should just sell my house and buy lots of land and run a cat shelter, like Cat House on the Kings. God knows there's no shortage of stray cats. I had to boot one very friendly and determined feral out of my house this morning after he pushed his way in, inspected the place, and then tried to kill me by walking between my ankles.

Thank you for passing this on. The male partner of these two is a veteran who was served eviction papers while he was in the hospital. They have housing, but they can't keep the kitties. And he's having trouble with the VA. Of course.
