I hadn't thought of there being an Adams influence. I did finally read The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy a few years ago (and very much enjoyed it while continually exclaiming, "Oh, THAT is where that came from!" as if it were Shakespeare), but that's the extent of my experience with Adams.
