My husband and one of my housemates simply put things back where they came from, almost always. The other two of us are a little more free-form.
I used to have a TO BE FILED box too. It was a great help when I went to TAXES and NON-TAX. Though NON-TAX is after the fact. I don't put those in a bag as I go. I just let them pile up.
