I grew up with The Wonderful Flight to the Mushroom Planet, which still gives me a strong adventurous and numinous frisson when I read it, but I only found the other books some time later, and apparently they didn't stick quite so well. I have a whole set of high-school journals called Random Jottings, though.

I should really take another look at DS9 sometime. I bounced hard off the pilot episode, but pilots are so seldom really representative of what the show will become.
