I would have thought that it is, alas, the opposite. Once the tree roots are into a black water line that's pretty much it; one can remove the trees, or replace the line (which is now much perforated), but the vegetative persistence will not be dissuaded from a source of warm water and nutrients.

The only upside is that one can sometimes have the old line re-lined if it is not too much deconstructed and avoid a chunk of the cost.
