David has paying work, but hasn't actually been paid for it yet. There is allegedly interest in buying my novel in progress, but no progress on the negotiations at all, and, truthfully, not much on the novel in the past week. I added 170 words to it last night and will glare at it for a large part of today, since the weather prevents garden work. In my opinion it is too early for this book to drive me insane. That's supposed to come later. Possibly this is a result of having a rather detailed plot outline. Feh.
I do have a very, very cool book called Roman Gardens that is putting a great many useful images and background details into my head, and I know from experience that those will make writing the later parts of the book, when I get to them, much easier. I need a similar book, with similar drawings and reconstructions, on the nature of religious faction, but unfortunately religious faction is not really that kind of thing; you cannot dig it up out of the lava and take pollen samples from it and reconstruct its post holes in the same concrete useful fashion.
