Not fifteen minutes ago, with rain pouring down and thunder cracking right overhead, I noticed that the western sky was glowing yellow. So I went to see if there might be a rainbow. The eastern sky was peach-colored from side to side. There was a double rainbow right over the elm tree next to our garage. I stepped outside to admire it, and two blinding flashes of lightning gouged through the rainbow and were gone; then another, and another.

I went back inside.

Now the western sky is pale peach itself, curdled with gray and blue and white clouds.

All the cats are affronted.
