Pies Redux

The pies were very meek this time, and did not leap out of the oven or require baking twice as they did at Thanksgiving. I was trying to think of the opposite of "Pies of Doom," as I titled that entry, but "Pies of Salvation" is a little too serious for me. In any case, two vegan pumpkin, one mincemeat. We also made a large pan of roasted cauliflower with garlic and lemon. Tomorrow David and Eric and I will take several bags of presents, the cauliflower, the pies, a good supply of empty refrigerator dishes, and ourselves over to my mother's house, where we will make and eat dinner with my mother, my brother, David's sister, and her partner. There will be one feline observer, and with luck a lot of birds at the feeder.

A very merry Christmas to those of you who celebrate it. I wish I could give you all something, wrapped in the Audubon paper with the birds and their names on it.

P.

Pies of Cooperation? Pies of Compliance?

Not much good . . . too much wine to come up with something really spiffy.

Happy holidays!

`Umm, you do know mince is my favorite pie, right? Here I'll sit a lonely old bachelor with out lovingly made PIE! Sniff. I guess I'll just suffer in my lonely garret gnawing on crusts while Mr Tavian sits warm on the heater...

A pie, a pie of glory!
A pie that ends our woe!
A pie that tells of triumph
Against our vanquish'd foe!
Yield, summer's brightest sunrise,
To this December morn:
Lift up your gates, ye ovens
And let the Pies be born!

I think you should find some Hummels (it was the Hummels, wasn't it?) to give your pies to!

Oh, I haven't had mince pie in ages--and certainly not homemade!--because no one else in this family eats it. Yum!

Pamela, your friendship is always gift enough, no matter how seldom we actually see each other (despite living blocks apart).

. . . "did not leap out of the oven"
One of my very earliest memories (we moved out of that house on my fifth birthday) was of my mother taking one of her prized lemon meringue pies out of the oven, and slipping and dropping it. Just where it would hit the edge of the open oven door to flip over and land face-down on the floor.
classic!

The other single person from bookgroup brought in most of dinner and we watched a DVD. (I watched the birds and squirrels, too.) The cats were still wary, but Spirit came to sit in my lap.
