At last year's worldcon, which had the great advantage of being here, Z and I did a great thing of going out for afternoon tea with one or two other people every afternoon, in a nearby teahouse. (It's not one we normally go to, and now everytime we go there we get mournful, but never mind.) It was very good quiet conversation and hanging out and this really worked, and I would do it again at any convention that had a teahouse within a couple of blocks. Maybe you should think in terms of something like this instead of parties.
