It's Winter
Feb. 3rd, 2003 01:41 pmIt's hard to describe what snow light does. The sky is a uniform pale gray overhead, shading to much darker on the horizon. The birds are twittering. Everything neither sheltered nor disturbed by the wind has a thick lining of white. The dark green of the arbor vitae, the yellow of the house across the street and the sandy pink of the one next door are both muted and bright. White is the color; the rest is just a dab here and a touch there.
David has heroically shovelled the front walk, thus discharging our obligation to our neighbors and the mail deliverer. I need to go out and do something about the back, just in case anybody wants to take a car away from here in the next few days.
I am so much happier now about my plants. As if their winter blanket had finally come back from the dry cleaner's.
