My first look at the headline, my brain read "beekeepers". Somehow I don't think cats keep bees very well. The tuxedo cat bit a bee once, and spent the rest of the day shaking her head. After that, we called her the "black-cheeked bee eater", which may also be an African bird.

"Black-cheeked bee eater" is a great cat nickname! We have a Star-bellied Meeper, but that is almost certainly NOT an African bird.

Sometimes I think cats are responsible for a lot more brain fun than we realized. Even if you leave toxoplasmosis out of the question.

Aw, thanks. They were originally for Twitter, because some of Ellen Kushner's e-books were on sale and somebody put up a photo of her cat with a copy of one novel, and then lots of people did it. But Raphael liked the photo of Cassie so much I was encouraged to put it up on LJ, and I have to say it is very nice to talk in more than 140 characters.

Nice pictures. Nice cats! Mine don't actually read, but they've formed strong opinions about books...pawing through a picture book about a bat in a birdhouse (repeatedly, without clawing the book), shredding the cover of one of (non-cat-person) Dave Barry's books, and most recently taking a dislike to Ben Carson's "Take the Risk." Not just pulling off the jacket to get at a cricket, or opening the book to look at a picture; they wanted that book out of the part of the house they can get into. I have no idea, not even a joke idea, why they hated "Take the Risk."

I could speculate, but I will refrain.

I'm grateful that our books don't generally contain insects of interest to cats. We don't seem to have any crickets, and the fruit flies, moths, small black beetles of unknown intention, and house centipedes don't usually end up in books. That I know of. Oh dear.

I especially like your story of the cats going carefully through the book about a bat in a birdhouse.

I have enough space between the keyboard and computer that George can lie comfortably. It's rather nice.

My mother has an arrangement like that. Her previous cat occasionally reprogrammed the keyboard, but mostly it was just nice and companionable for both of them.

Top cat appears to have personally had a hand in the fall of at least one king and may be meditating on the next dethronement.

This caused great amusement to top cat's person. She is actually quite benign, but she doesn't like the camera very much and also was not entirely pleased by the book's encroachment upon her cushion.

Though, really, if a king could be dethroned by a killing shake, breaking his neck, she would be on the case in a New York minute.

From the post title, I initially wondered whether you had trained the cats to file your taxes, rather than just making you misplace the paperwork for same. ;-)

It's from a comment to the previous post. I am afraid that their idea of a reasonable deductible expense would not suit the IRS very well.
