I love your description of Cassie slinking around like a furry snake! And I think it's neat that you have storm window; my parents had them on the first house I can remember living in, but they don't seem to be a thing more recent houses have. It's like shutters: they used to actually be usable features, which you could close to protect windows from high winds, etc., but then they turned into a mere decorative element, and now they don't even make an appearance as that.
