Oof--We (and by we I mean the landlord...) had to deal with tree roots in pipes several years ago, but the solution was to dig in the front yard and replace pipes. There went some of the lovely front garden, sacrificed to the god of clear pipes.
This seems to be the season of crabby plumbing; the kitchen faucet started to drip which morphed into a leak under the sink which morphed into not using the faucet at all until the plumber comes to replace said faucet. *sigh* Oh well, we can get water for cooking and dish washing and such from the bathtub faucet. But oh dear, the bathtub drain has decided to drain slowly and/or not at all. Some plunging and the baking soda/vinegar trick has helped, but the next shower taken will be the true test.
That is to say, I feel your pain wrt plumbing woes. I am very ready for spring.
