As far as obtaining better masks, I buy my KN95s from Bona Fide Masks (bonafidemasks.com). They are authentic, affordable, and ship really fast, and I (and my coworkers who have gone in on an order with me) feel that they fit really well.
You needn't worry that you'd be taking away from essential workers, because my understanding is that now that the worst of the manufacturing shortage is past, it's actually helpful to the factory to have a steady stream of smaller orders.
