By which I mean, the COVID-19 virus. I got my first shot today. HCMC, having sent me an invitation and let me make an appointment, did not blink at the fact that I had to abandon them in 2017 because I couldn't get an insurance plan on the marketplace that counted their clinics as being in-network. They just did the thing.

It was pretty fast and smooth, but there were a lot of people in there. I am not used to that any more.

When we got home and I was walking through the back yard to the door, a cardinal was calling and calling from one of the mulberry trees. I was very glad to hear it.

I"ve seen two robins in the past week. Of course, today the wind chill was minus one million.

Robins always seem to come home at the wrong time, but they seem to survive it. They are so cheerful.

When I was working at the l.s. there was Sam Donnelly. He was old, and his hygiene was kind of suspect, and he really was an institution. His exam questions ALWAYS involved Peter Parker (Spiderman). He was a giver of the 'gentleman's "C"'. Well...I don't know in what context, but I mentioned to him one year that I had already seen my first robin of the spring. He said that was good luck, but to see one before St. Patrick's Day, well, that was the best. Sam passed 10 years ago. And every year when I see my first robin (usually before St. Patrick's Day) I think of Sam.

I am so glad!

I am home, sick, with the same symptoms, but more severe, that caused me to test positive for COVID in November. I really hope that's _not_ what this is. I am hoping to get vaccinated through Cuyahoga county, but they opened up slots for tomorrow and by the time I was awake, they were all gone.

No no no, that is not permitted! Not for a moment! I hope you feel better very soon and have a nice negative test.

It is so maddening to have to chase vaccination slots. It's just all wrong.

Where did you get your shot? Richard just got his 2nd shot today at Regions in St. Paul. He said it was very well-organized and quick and he didn't ever feel like there were a lot of people around. But at this point we all have totally different levels of acquired agoraphobia and probably completely divergent definitions of "a lot of people." The Regions vaccination area was apparently pretty cavernous. I'm guessing that you went to a smaller clinic, like Whittier.

Apparently the hardest part was finding the way from the parking ramp to the right building. On his first visit (Feb 9) they actually had human guides! Apparently no guides today, but now he knew the way.

I've been hearing cardinals whistling for 2 or 3 weeks now. I know they stay all winter, but if that's their mating call they really seemed to be jumping the gun.

You are right, I went to Whittier. I mean, it's right there, it's my old clinic.

They'd cancelled walk-in COVID tests for the day, at least. That would have been a madhouse.

I'm still obsessively checking the HealthPartners website. I hope you and David both hear soon. Very glad Richard has now had both doses and managed the terrors of St. Paul with aplomb.

Yes, I suspect cardinals are spoken to by people more than a great many other birds. They always seem to be perfectly sanguine about the situation.
