Yep, this is a cold, all right. At least it seems to be putting itself through its paces fairly briskly.

I have written three hundred words today already and have high hopes of another chunk of about the same size. This book is certainly not moving very fast -- I don't mean the pace of my writing, I mean the speed with which the plot advances -- but I think this is just as well. Thematic, even.

Must watch a tendency to describe food whenever at a loss, however.

There's food -- several family dinners are described, and there's also the things Becky and Gentian eat during their sleepover. I think there's food at Alma's party, too. But Gentian's attitude towards food is a bit absent much of the time.

The present book has a bakery in a fairly prominent place in the plot. I'm having far too much fun with that.

My attitude as a writer is closer to yours than to Truepenny's. I am passionately interested in food, but I can't always get my characters to go along, and I don't have a tremendous knowledge of a lot of the things I make up. The characters have, but they won't always tell me.
