Tidying up

I find, after trying them, that these feedy things don't work for me. I'd rather bookmark the actual sites and look at them separately than have this terrifying wodge of stuff show up on my Friends page. This is quite irrational, since I am going to read the stuff anyway. I just like it separated out. My mother tells me that when she was a child she refused to eat anything on her plate that had touched anything else on her plate, so perhaps that's it.

Did I say "feedy things"? Heaven help me.

I know what you mean. I prefer seeing the words in their native habitat, somehow. I don't have this problem with livejournal, I'd go crazy if I tried to read everyone's journal on their respective pages (but that's different).

Having a sort of "regular rounds" bookmark file (or webpage) is what still works best for me. Much as I love having so many journals together on a friends page, I still prefer going out to visit non-livejournal weblogs and journals.

*grin* Unfortunately for me, I wouldn't actually remember to read them without the feedy things. (For a similar reason, I have my front journal page modified to have links that open windows to forums I read.)

In Opera, if you put all the bookmarks you want to look at daily in a folder together, you can open the whole folder at once, as separate windows -- that way it's as convenient as a friendslist, but you get to see everyone's site design.

The advantage to me of having the feeds on my friends page is that I control the style. I have great difficulty reading type that is set against a black background, and that seems to be a popular style (both on Livejournal and off).

Buffyverse. Mwahaha. (This week's Angel *ROCKED*!! But I digress. [What, is my mouth moving? {Therefore I digress.}])

My sister still won't let her food touch.

It works for me on a day-to-day basis, for keeping up. If I want to read backwards in time, I go to the individual LJ, though. I'm mostly happy with the default Carbonel's friends page, but I wish I could figure out how to make it ragged right instead of right-justified.

On the other hand, I still prefer to have all my food separated out, though I'm less obsessive about it now than I was as a child. And you know my feelings about corn and peas and touching. (I've relented about raisins in my old age.)

What I find more disturbing is that I knew what you were talking about instantly, even with no context. O_o

If the issue is the feedy things not touching the journaly things, then you could create a second friends group of feeds and bookmark it. If the issue is comments, though, you're out of luck...

I too prefer to read other people's journals in their natural habitat rather than on my friends list; the volume on my friends list is now about as much as I'm comfortable having in one place. No idea why this is.

WRT food, I've always been of the position that if different foodstuffs did not taste nice in the same mouthful, they had no business being on the same plate, or indeed in the same course. [ Have been known, on this principle, to cheerfully dip mushrooms in bowls of yoghurt at conventions in hotels providing both for breakfast; this works best with natural yoghurt, but is acceptable if weird with black cherry. ]

That's just brilliant.

How do I open the whole folder together?

What I do is give it a nickname: right-click on the folder in the hotlist pane, choose properties, type "blogs" or "b" or whatever in the nickname: field. After that, to open all the windows, you can hit F2 and type in the nickname.

You can also right click on the folder in the hotlist pane and choose "open," or if you use the Bookmarks menu, each submenu has "open all folder items" as the second choice.

I have solved this problem by making a small group which is only the feedy things. Although come to that I don't read them very often because of the strangeness of having them all interspersed.

I think chocolate chip cookie in jalapeno cheddar dip sounds lovely, but I also eat garlic & liverwurst sandwiches & have been known to commit other flavour atrocities. My tastebuds are quite temperamental.
