Things noticed yesterday on a walk with David:
Daffodils and purple violets blooming on the south-facing sides of houses; scilla blooming at random.
Crows, cardinals, finches, robins seen; bluejays heard, chickadees heard.
Things noticed in yard:
Crocuses blooming; one wild geranium out of three putting up foliage; the first of the waterlily tulips blooming, one red Appeldoorn tulip half open, the rosettes of hairy bellflower taking over everywhere, apparently hellbent on beating out the motherwort for Most Encompassing Nuisance Behavior by an Otherwise Welcome Plant; more scilla blooming; daylilies becoming large; bleeding-heart up, hollyhocks up, tradescantia and daffodils and grape hyacinths all showing foliage; leaves on the White Rose of York bush I was worried about, though it has some winterkilled bits; oriental lilies starting to show; snowdrops blooming in the front yard as well as the back; a milliard tree seedlings where no tree seedlings should be; winter aconite blooming by the front sidewalk, where I forget I planted it; goldenrod and beebalm up. Whee!
It's going to be time to mow the grass before I really want to.

Report from Zone 7
Date: 2003-04-25 02:31 pm (UTC)The early daffodils all shriveled up in the community garden between noon and 5:00 p.m. Lucky for me, I photographed them when the shrivel had started but wasn't noticeable. See these photos.
Our community garden grass should have been mowed last week -- it fought the reel mower something fierce. The going was easier in the Michelle Cutner garden where the ground cover is mostly chickweed which lies down and dies in a week or so anyhow.
Re: Report from Zone 7
Date: 2003-04-25 03:33 pm (UTC)We're zone 4B, so I am surprised we are as close as we are. Plum trees, magnolias, and tulip trees are blooming, but not the main of fruit trees.

Going out on a limb...
...I noticed you answered on Peg Kerr's journal and your name struck a note. After a visit of your journal and tracking down WHY that name sounded so very familiar...
May I ask? Are you an author and, if so, were you the author of a book called "Tam Lin"?
No offense or intrusion intended! It just really hit a note with me and I just had to ask...
Thanks for your time!

Date: 2003-04-26 10:35 am (UTC)And really, you're quite welcome. If I didn't want people wandering in, I'd just friends-lock stuff. At the moment this is an open journal, and I have to say that I really have no objection to people's wanting to know if I wrote my own books. Stick around if you are so inclined.

Re: Going out on a limb...
Date: 2003-06-07 09:47 am (UTC)I did want to say that I have THROROUGHLY enjoyed Tam Lin. *grin* When I read it the first time, I'd just learned about the legend of Tam Lin and the book was perfect for me. (I think my favorite character, tho, was Robin.)
And thanks for the 'Stick around' invitation!
