I'm behind on everything and even more so on reporting it. So, a series of posts with, maybe, only one topic per post. Maybe.

I have managed to begin Chapter 5 and get about 500 words into it. I have reread the entire book from the beginning, and also have reread the plot synopsis. At Eric's behest I have done a rough word count. Thirty-one thousand, five hundred. Probably about a quarter of the way done.

You may laugh all you like, but the Perfect Saturday three-quarters reported in these pages is in fact legitimate research for this novel, as is reading the phenology books about the north woods of Wisconsin. As also is gardening. So there.

More writing would be good, however.

In news about writing already finished -- Sharyn sent me the cover flats for the three reprints of the Secret Country books. They are quite gorgeous; I think the artist has a great talent for landscape and for telling details, and if his idea of dragons tends too much towards the dinosaurian for my taste, that is not a very great matter.

If I can get it together to write the prose to go with it, I'll put the flats up on my website, and then I'll link to it here.

Really good to hear that the Secret Country books will be reprinted, my husband used to tease me after I finally got the Whim of the Dragon, because I kept making funny surprised noises.

Hey Pamela! Get it together! (I've been hearing about those covers too long. It's gotten to me.)

Peculiarly, the Perfect Saturday reminds me in places of a text adventure game. I do not get them -- alas, I've tried. But something about those make me think of them, particularly, "A dragonfly flew down the path ahead of us, and we followed it."
