Belated update, still on May 3
May. 12th, 2003 02:32 pmI don't know why I'm being so stubborn about this. Probably because I know I'll read it in ten years and wonder why I didn't finish properly.
After we had recovered from the wedding -- I am not accustomed to drinking alcohol in the afternoon -- we took the bus to my house, where the Great Fish Adoption Fiasco was taking place. The person who offered Lydy a three-foot-long tank complete with huge beautiful fish (and very, very dirty water, so perhaps it was a Fish Rescue Fiasco instead) turned out to have a four-foot-long tank instead, so Lydy had to empty her own tanks and move them to make room for the new one. She had several choice remarks about the adage that one should not look a gift horse in the mouth.
Eric went outside with some of the reading for his paper, and I went upstairs and spent some time with Raphael. When I came downstairs my cat was waiting hopefully in the staircase, so I popped his leash on and took him outside until it was mostly dark. Then Eric and I got into David's car (David having been driving my mom's car while she was away) and after a brief pause so Eric could remember how to drive at all and how to drive a stick, we went, with no grinding of gears and only the occasional lurch, to the Minn-Stf meeting.
We didn't stay more than an hour, being utterly exhausted. But it was a lot of fun. We got to admire Daedala's quilt and to talk to both Minnehaha's before they left for the next stop on their wild social round. We got to talk to Dreamshark and Lsanderson, and eat the latter's splendid bean dip. I got to talk with Steve Bond, whom I almost never see any more, about gardening. He was a bit crabby at first but got mellower. I also got to talk a bit to cakmpls, who looked tireder than we were, but cheerful.
Then I successfully navigated Eric out to my mother's place in Eden Prairie, and on the way we saw the thin, thin crescent moon sailing along.

Moon
Date: 2003-05-12 12:58 pm (UTC)I've never seen one, and don't know how spectacular it will be in the center of the city anyhow, even if the weather cooperates. But I think I'll try to stay awake to find out, unless it's raining.
Is that the end of your perfect Saturday, Pamela, or is there more?
Re: Moon
Date: 2003-05-12 01:39 pm (UTC)You've never seen one? Huh.
(By the way, here's a nifty little form, courtesy of the US Naval Observatory, that generates sunrise/sunset/moonrise/moonset/moonphase data for any town in the US.)
And Pamela, your perfect Saturday sounds perfectly fine, in the true sense of "fine."

Date: 2003-05-13 09:28 am (UTC)I love your stubbornness. It's probably why you're able to do things like finish novels. :-)
