It just seems time to make another entry.

Eric and I have had two successful trips to Loring Park, the first featuring a lot of tree identification, a band of remarkably adorable juvenile ducks, a few dragonflies; the second featuring a fledgling red-winged blackbird from the nest we saw on Pride Weekend, now perching precariously on a cattail and gaping with its red, red mouth. Both featured cormorants and egrets. I forget on which one we saw a swallow drinking from the lake. It was on the second that we made an exhaustive tour of the AIDS Memorial Garden.

Eric is working here again this week, which gives me the pleasing situation of having all my sweeties under one roof. I made dinner last night, a large vegetable stirfry and baked marinated tofu to go with it. This was unfortunate for David, who dislikes tofu; the more unfortunate since I had told him I would put cashews in the vegetable dish and then been unable to locate them in the kitchen. He was quite amiable about it all, making himself some cheese and crackers after dinner. I later caught him eating ice cream in the dining room, and we got into an argument about how much or little protein it contained. He was much righter than I was (this is not unusual) but in that mixture of kindly and sarcastic that only he can manage, said that no doubt it contained quite a lot of protein "to a vegan."

Raphael and I have some really excellent literary discussion.

Eric and I have entered into fairly practical serious planning for his departure for California, so I'm afraid that's real.

Did you spot the Kentucky coffee tree sort of in the corner nearest the Ole Bull statue?

K. [I do like that one]

Ow. I know it's been expected, but ... much empathy.

It's not entirely unlikely that I could be experiencing something of the sort in the not-too-distant future, if the Northwest tech job market doesn't open up a bit.

If you do, and feel like sharing at some point, I'd be interested in hearing them.

While I've always told myself that the possibility of love is worth the risk that it might end*, I've never managed to develop an immunity to the pain that happens when it does.

I still think it's worth the risk, though.

*"End", in most cases, usually not meaning "end" at all, but something more like "change to something else" or "remove itself from my proximity."

Juvie ducks do have their charm. I've been enjoying the youngsters in the Canadian Goose family on Powderhorn's lake, too.

Yes. The goslings are at that stage, too. What's funny is the way the parents still stand guard over the younger ones (nearly indistinguishable in size and coloring) while they eat. They still travel in formation, too, with one parent leading and one taking up rear guard.
