I am so utterly not cut out for this

Months ago, I knew I'd be doing a signing at Bound to Be Read in St. Paul, this very day. Did I send a notice to Einblatt, the newsletter of the Minnesota Science Fiction Society? I did not. Did I send a notice to the events list associated with that same organization? I did not. Did I figure out what to wear and buy it in advance to be sure I liked it? I did not.

I am bringing a photographer along, but only because I'm married to him.

At least this will reinforce the notion that sitting at home and writing is much the best thing for me.

Well, if I'd known, in some fully-conscious sense, I'd have sent one myself. I just forgot about it.

Oh, Obble dear,I hope they are good to you and that it is accomplished with minimal discomfort.

I bet you could trade somebody a copy of each book for handling such things, you know. Just sayin'. I know there are helpful people who enjoy your work. Helpful people with good memories and high sociability indexes and everything, even. (The "good memory" part lets me out, though.)

David reminded me several times. I wanted to see the event on the bookstore's website, on the calendar, and by the time it was there life was rather hectic. It would have been better to make an earlier announcement and then a cancellation announcement if things got messed up. Oh, well, live and learn.

Oh, god, I know. I'm doing a signing tomorrow, too, and I only just managed to remember to tell anyone. I suppose I'm lucky I remembered that date: I had it written down for a different weekend.

I thought about mentioning it on the Natter list and sending it to the Events list.

But I didn't know if you'd thank me for it, resent my meddling in your life/career, or possibly deliberately weren't mentioning it.

Well, with a public event like that it wouldn't have hurt to go ahead, as I said on Natter; but the ideal solution for a more general case would probably just be to remark that there are people who don't read lj who might want to know about it, and why not put an announcement in Einblatt or whatever. It's my job to do it, after all.
