Virus attack
Apr. 8th, 2004 01:15 pmNo, I mean an actual virus, attacking me. Not very vigorously so far, but I've got that "go away, don't bother me" feeling the body exudes when it's working on repelling boarders, and a scratchy throat and some sniffles. I'd put the latter two down to spring, but the former gives me pause. Much as I dislike the thought, I might skip this evening's festivities at Minicon and apply tea, vitamins, zinc, and rest, in the interest of being better for the rest of the weekend. I'm definitely going, barring a fever of a hundred and two. But I think a rest period is probably indicated.
My resolve is further strengthened by the fact that David recently appeared before me, brandishing a red plastic water glass, squinching up his eyes accusingly, and demanding, "Are YOU the Echinacea Thief?" I realized after he had taken his echinacea and left to do Minicon work that somewhere in the past few years, since he got reading glasses, his unadorned face has acquired the look mine always has without glasses, at least insofar as I am able to determine what that look is in the first place.
As long as I'm babbling, I want to insert, just for my own edification in the far future, that Richard Clarke is my hero. That is all.

Date: 2004-04-08 12:08 pm (UTC)I do hope you feel better soon.
I agree with you about Richard Clarke. I do feel for C. Rice, though. Not that it's the same thing at all, but I am pres. of my prof. org. this year--out of the blue. The woman who was supposed to be pres had to step down suddenly. I've made some mistakes, and apologized for them. But it's SO hard not to defend a wrong position, and to apologize and not go on and on and on. For some reason (call me sexist), I think that women in authority have a very narrow acceptable affect. Anything outside of that leaves you being perceived as being whiny or bitchy.

Date: 2004-04-08 03:37 pm (UTC)I'd attempt to read the Richard Clarke book if a) I had any hope of getting it at the library and b) if my brain were in good enough shape to follow anything that serious. Light and frothy is all I seem to be able to handle this week.
Anyway--spring breezes your way.

Date: 2004-04-08 04:08 pm (UTC)I have a reading from 4 to 5, so I'll be all done by the time you get back. Let's meet in the lobby by the bar, okay? David and Lydy and I will put our heads together over the specific restaurant. Do you eat Thai food?
