I'm still working on STEALING THE ELF-KING'S ROSES, whereby we see that it has not got the grabbing power of the Young Wizards books or the Door Into books, for me. I'm quite liking it, though. I also finally finished A PRIDE OF HEROES, which is remarkably crammed with incident for such a short book; and went back to ONE FOOT IN THE GRAVE, which I abandoned when discovering that PRIDE takes place earlier in the career of the same protagonist. Peter Dickinson has such flair.

I usually read much more than this. I conceive that I must be reading a lot of web-logs. (YES! I have hyphenated that word! I hate "blog" as a short form of it! Bah! Blog is an alarmingly pink concoction drunk at Minicon.)

Whoops. There goes the rest of my yearly allotment of exclamation points.

I liked Stealing the Elf-King's Roses much better than A Wizard Abroad and about equally with A Wizard's Dilemma. (The latter had severely alienating nice family relationships, as far as I'm concerned.)

I think many of SEKR's problems arise from the way it skims the romance genre and cues expectations oddly for someone who's read much in that.If that makes sense.

I read mysteries despite the mystery, not because of it, so that might also be part of my reaction.

I really like the conception of Justice, though.

i agree!

i don't like the word "blog" either. i refer to them as "weblogs." maybe i'll hyphenate now, a la you.

"Online journal" for me.

My dear ex, Bob Howe, says there were only two statements that should end in an exclamation point: "Bad dog!" and "Don't shoot!"

"There goes the rest of my yearly allotment of exclamation points.."

At least they went quietly.

Well, if you continue using the exclamation points at this rate, you'll have to put in for loans from several years in advance and then where will you be when an asteroid hits the Earth? Stuck without a defining (!) for your "save me" or "forgive me" or ...

Purgatory without exclamation points.

(Thanks for letting me take off.)
