My Unitarian Jihad name is the Handgun of Thinking it Over. No Unitarians I ever met called one another Sister and Brother, so the generator can generate without me. I'll be happy to think over all your Sister or Brother , electronically generated names, though. Because that is the Unitarian way.

Hey, there are plenty of Jewish UUs. And Buddhist UUs. Just saying, so you can come up with a better excuse next time.

Having thought this over, I have concluded that you are correct, and am dropping the "Sister" part of my title (which was not auto-generated either).

As none of the Unitarians that I know called each other Sister or Brother either, I just assumed that was a jihad thing, sort of like called each other Comrade if we were a communist front.

Good afternoon, Pamela.

I never wanted to be part of a Jihad, even a Unitarian one, but they gave me such an important title that I simply must join up. I think they need me.

See you soon at the Jihad. I'll bring some lemon Dazani.

I think the brother and sister part comes from the jihad part.

On another level, what's even funnier about all this is that jihad means "struggle --" any kind, including the reasonable debating kind.

As [livejournal.com profile] necturus has pointed out (http://www.livejournal.com/users/necturus/45437.html), "Sister" and "Brother" aren't Islamic either. I think they're appropriate to what I see as the spirit of the thing: poking fun at extremist religion in general. I feel that without the Christian element, there's a chance it could be seen as specifically anti-Islam.

I was certainly addressed as 'sister' when communicating (through interpreter) with the sheik of al-Ahzar in Cairo. I rather assumed that to be correct usage, considering the source?

I think, if I understood [livejournal.com profile] necturus correctly, he was talking about titles of jihad participants ("mujahid", if I understand correctly). That wouldn't exclude "sister" or "brother" being used in other contexts.

I honestly admit I have no clue; I'm not well-informed about Islamic or Arabic culture.

To me, "sister" and "brother" have Christian connotations, which I happen to like in the context of a Unitarian jihad. (I also like the fact, as [livejournal.com profile] ritaxis points out, that "jihad" has connotations of violence in the west, but actually means "struggle" and is therefore entirely accurate.

Perhaps "titles" is the more appropriate term. (Apologies, I know I can be SO Virgo at times.)

The very notion of a "Unitarian Jihad" fills me with laughter and the titles generated are hysterical. I'll confess "Sister Neutron Bomb of Enlightened Compassion" is my favorite, though the "Handgun of Thinking It Over" and the others are pretty funny too. What a funny exercise in incongruity! Love it! But think I'll pass. Being a "weapon" of love doesn't resonate with me. I think of love more as a shield or a waterfall (peaceful, of course.)

Yours in Solidarity, comrades! (especially since I don't think I've been introduced to many of you.)

Have a good!

Upon further reflection, I've decided (without using an electronic generator) that for the Unitarian Jihad (about which I know nothing) I would like to be known as (optionally: Brother) Scissors of Cutting Through Red Tape, and in that capacity am looking for Brother or Sister Pinking Shears of Environmental Protection.

I'm not formally Unitarian, but I hope we accept each other.

Again, thanks for the exercise in Incongruity. Names like Brother Atom Bomb of "Warm" (no kidding!) Humanitarianism" and "Sister Katana of Humanitarian Kindness" (it was a mercy killing?) really got me thinking.

Still laughing over "Machine Gun of Reasoned Discussion"--no offense intended, Sister--and remain in linguistic awe at the Neutron Bomb of EnLIGHTened Compassion (am inferring She must a Sister of Sister Katana.)

Peace & laughter,
j.
