Happy birthday

Happy birthday to my beloved husband, dd_b.

We already had the family celebration last Friday. I'm going to make him a lemon meringue pie, but not today, when a high of 87 is forecast. It will be cooler tomorrow, and also my mother and I are going to Whole Foods, where I can get organic lemons.

Oh, it's tilting all right -- if it weren't we'd have a low of seventy tonight, instead of fifty.

David's is usually chocolate cake or banana cake, though I did used to make two lemon meringue pies for our two housemates' birthdays when we lived in Massachusetts. He just suddenly realized that he hadn't had a lemon meringue pie in years, so it was a good birthday pick.

Does lemon merangue pie object to heat, or do you simply object to baking when it's this hot? I've been waiting all summer for it to be de-humidified enough to make lemon bars.

I object to the baking in this heat -- the house is not air-conditioned. Also I have better luck with piecrust in cooler weather. Also I'm happier whipping raw egg whites in cooler weather.

Lemon bars, yum. I haven't had those in years. I can't think that a vegan version would be really satisfying.
