Cat!

I suppose things could still go pear-shaped, but at the moment Aristophanes seems much better. I was in tears last night because he wouldn't eat; it wasn't just that, but he did that whisker-curling, turn-the-head-away thing of a nauseated cat, and I had a terrible flashback to lying on the hallway floor in our old house at five in the morning, offering a saucer of salmon Fancy Feast diluted with warm water to my beautiful white Sukey Tawdry, and having her make that exact same face. She did not get better.

Ari, however, was apparently just tired of salmon. He snarfed some chicken cat food in a very natural way, and Raphael reported that he spent the night rocketing in and out of the upstairs and finishing up the plate of food. He is moving much faster and more naturally than he was, and demanded to go outside on his leash. I didn't even put on sunscreen. At least he missed the monarch butterfly that was darting around laying eggs on the milkweed. He might have missed anyway; it was pretty fast.

I had better go work on my book. Thanks again for all the kind words, and for the advice on feeding sick cats. I know I will need it in time.

Pamela

Oh, this is wonderful news. So glad to hear.

My roommate's vet says chicken baby food. A cat that will not eat chicken baby food is sick.

Ah, yes. The 'I'm not really sure I like this anymore'. Domino used to pull that one.

And heat, as the poster below said. Heat will definitely kill appetite. I've been laying a wet hand-towel over my poor fat dachsie, MagPie, at night. And rubbing her down with a mixture of water and rubbing alcohol.

Oh, this is good! Is it hot where you are? Cats can be nauseated by heat, too.

Oh, don't worry about that. What are you going to do, seed the clouds and make it rain?

But cats need to get cooled off. With my Abbie kitty, I've had to dunk her in cool water and wet her down a few times during this heat wave. The other kitties have been spending all their time in the kitchen---in front of one fan and under another---or lying on any exposed cool flooring surface. Morgie, who's the fluffiest of the fluffy, has been hanging out in the basement a lot. Smart kitty, eh?

TMI? Hee! I once did this long, LONG, piece about how a creepy obsessed stalker type had stolen my vibrator----or else it had run away from home. Or whatever it is that vibrators do. (When I condensed that post for a friend while on the phone with her, she nearly drove off the road. Fancy explaining exactly how that happened to the CHP!) Overshare, that is me. Your tact is to be commended.

I think it was the mental image of the poor little thing with its stick bundle over its...shoulder....that did it for me.

This is good news. I hope he continues to improve.

Miles is back in good shape, so maybe there is an atmosphere of healthy-cat-ness blooming. :)

Three cheers for the hungry cat! I had one of those this morning. Boy, I can sure tell she isn't ailing in the vocal cords.

My vet (who seems to be a young, newly minted vet from the U of M) also suggested Fancy Feast as a way to get calories into the LHC. She mentioned chicken and one other flavor.

Glad to hear that the Scourge of Monarchs is feeling better. I'm happy to see a wave of well-cat news today.

I'm glad Ari is doing better. He's such a fine, fluffy goof of an orange cat.

What does it mean to "got pear-shaped"? (I suppose I could looking it up on the interwebs, but I'm anti-social enough as it is, and I'd rather ask you instead. You are more funnest than the Web.

It's British slang, and it means roughly "go wrong".

I'm so glad he's feeling better! While Pookie is a dawg, he has had a touch of pancreatitis and come back as cute-eared as ever. The medication and extra squishy food put him right as rain in a couple of days.

I shall say a nice round of Brekka-kekex-koax-koax in Ari's name!

I am so glad he is feeling better. I have nursed my boy kitty Mojo through hepatic lipodosis twice and getting him to eat was so difficult. It's very scary when someone who's been a part of your life for that long becomes ill. Give him a pet for me. :)
