I forgot to say, I saw my first bumblebee of the spring, soaring gloriously in the twilight. I do not have many flowers for her. Maybe she can find Minnehaha K's hepaticas.

As I went about the house this evening, I smelled a damp organic scent. Ah, I thought, the smell of spring. However, when I went into the downstairs kitchen to fill up one of the cats' waterbowls, it developed that Lydy had coopted the largest stockpot to boil some of the wood for her acquarium in.

Also, I might have finished Chapter 4. I have to think about it.

I did too! She was working the daffodils in my patch of the community garden.

(Of course she's a "she," but for some reason I think of bumblebees as masculine. Because they're large and noisy, perhaps?)

A wasp came up to the second-floor kitchen window today. I didn't get a good enough look to identify it any further, but the silhouette was unmistakably waspy. I didn't know they came out this early -- I only remember seeing bees in mid-April.
