Well, I'm Back

I forgot to specifically note that I was going; things were very hectic the week before. But it all worked out: Eric got packed and his stuff all successfully taken away and delivered in California; the apartment got cleaned and the inspector did a walkthrough and said he didn't see any charges, meaning Eric would get his entire security deposit back; we got ourselves and our essential baggage and the cat onto the plane in time; and my time in California, while even more crowded than I had expected and punctuated by unexpectedness, was wonderful. I'm going to write it all up, but am still in the note-making stage. I also want to check everything with Eric, since I have already shown a slight disposition to, for example, confuse heron sightings.

In the meantime it is soothing to be back in my house with my cats and my sweeties and even my mess. I fear to look at my Friends page, but will do so presently. I hope you were all good while I was gone.

It felt very weird to be offline so long. And I had trouble remembering how to type when I got back. Though part of that was probably just extreme fatigue plus having forgotten to take my medication on time.

I'm in town this weekend. If you aren't too wiped out for social stuff, maybe I'll see you at Minn-StF tomorrow (though odds are I won't be there 'til evening and maybe not for very long). Or else there's the small shindig over at Carol & Jonathan's tonight starting at 7pm to celebrate Kevin's birthday (and also Sharon's birthday, too).

Though if I were in your shoes, I'd just be wanting stay home. Home sweet home! (I'm missing my cats already).

When I saw livredor the other day, her friend Jen mentioned a useful-for-vegans baking trick: apparently pureed pear can substitute for eggs in sweet things.

Bananas can as well. Unfortunately, in my opinion, this results in a sticky and overly-sweet confection.

Not that I wasn't very happy to have a choice of vegan blueberry, cranberry-nut, or oat-almond muffins at a bakery in Berkeley. But they gave the phrase "eating out of hand" a whole new meaning.
