All right, the offer on the sequel to The Dubious Hills and The Whim of the Dragon has been made, chewed on, tossed in the air, lost under the sofa, and retrieved. A deal is done.

The manuscript is due August 1, 2006, with the hardcover to be published in 2007 and the paperback in 2008. Yes, those dates are very far away, but I have to write the thing, and I don't do that either quickly or consistently.

I am smug and delighted.

People who tendered congratulations when the deal was only beginning need not feel obliged to do so again, but no discouragement is intended.

Pamela

"Lost under the sofa." Very cool.

Congratulations. Although the moment after I signed the papers on my one and only book deal, I mostly wanted to go throw up. It meant I had to produce the damned thing. Good thing it wasn't to be a work of literature of any sort, just an extension of my work.

Congratulations! Fantastic news. Does the deadline help with motivation?

This is fantatastic news! Is *The Dubious Hills* also going to be reprinted? (Did you mention this already? I'm very scattered lately.)

Congrats! Yay! More Pamela Dean books!

(Yeah, I already scoured up an old copy of all those others . . .)

That's great! If you finish it with uncharacteristic speed, will it get published sooner so we can read it sooner?

I hope so, too. Tam Lin is my favorite of your books, but I consider The Dubious Hills your best. Though it is, of course, much too soon to make a final pronouncement on either place, since you've books to write yet. :)

{:-)}

So, do you need offers of vegan care packages to keep you writing?

Yeah, well. Yours are a damn sight closer to literature than Fundraising and Friend-raising on the World Wide Web, published by the American Library Association.

Huzzah! Hooray!

It is good to have friends in positions to be delighted and smug.

You may be smug. You've earned it.

I am delighted. This post nudged me to finally go to bookfinder.com and scare up copies of the trilogy, which I've yet to read, and they've been ordered. I was especially pleased to find The Dubious Hills, as previous searches have failed to score a copy.

Now I'll be all primed when the sequel comes out. (-:
