The City Pages interview with Lois Bujold, Pat Wrede, Caroline Stevermer, Peg Kerr, Lyda Morehouse, and me, and with Eleanor Arnason, who was interviewed separately with the same questions and whose answers are included with ours, is out.
I said, "I'm trying to parse the question" rather than "I'm going to parse the question," but otherwise I recognize everything that's attributed to me.

In other news, Sharyn tells me that the Firebird edition of The Secret Country is going back to press, and that if it keeps selling at this rate, will outsell the original edition.

Date: 2004-06-02 11:01 am (UTC)We have quite a lot of nice sf conventions here, too.

Date: 2004-06-07 03:46 pm (UTC)Indeed, I have noticed that there seem to be a disproportionate number of sf cons in Minnesota. I theorize that this is because the winters are long, cold and dark, and people have little else to do but 1. write sf and 2. go to conventions to talk about writing sf, combined with 3. the advantage of not being quite so horribly out of the way as Alaska, where the winters are also long, cold and dark. :)
You often go to Minicon, don't you? Perhaps I should see about going next year, since, as best I can tell, half the known sf world turns up there anyway. :)
BTW, congratulations on Tam Lin being reprinted! I first encountered Carleton through that book and was incredibly astonished when I then started meeting people, *lots* of people, who had attended a college I'd thought to be wholly fictional. In fact, I'm still a little suspicious about the whole thing. :) Anyway, congrats, that's fantastic, particularly on the heels of the Secret Country reprints doing so well!

Sorry to be so late in responding
Date: 2004-06-16 11:08 pm (UTC)I felt rather that way when I went to Oxford, having first met it in Gaudy Night. I was prepared for the various colleges, and of course Shrewsbury isn't really there at all, but I'll never forget scanning up and down the street looking for a place to eat, and seeing The Mitre. I grabbed my companion's arm. "That's The Mitre. THE MITRE." "Well," she said briskly, "let's eat there, then."
I didn't notice anybody declining to write the child a nice friendly note, though.

Date: 2004-06-02 06:07 am (UTC)I also really apreciated the article, particularly with what it has to say about communities of writers- I think we could do with more of that in Melbourne. Thanks.
Actually, yes --
