Cat worries
Nov. 18th, 2005 12:19 pmAgh. I was going to post a nice cheerful bouncy "see you in a week," but my cat is still limping quite badly on his left front paw, and I'm taking him over to the vet to get X-rays this afternoon. I'm hoping very hard that the sequel to this will not be hauling him off to the University of Minnesota Small Animal Clinic in Friday afternoon traffic. I don't know what can be wrong with him. He acts quite perky otherwise, and his single complaint is that since I won't let him downstairs, he is bored out of his mind and deeply put upon. Well, right now he is also starving, having had no food since midnight, but that is a more temporary situation.
Jordan hates her antibiotic (who wouldn't; gloppy orange goo, yuck) and is ever more creative in drooling or spitting it around, not to mention making us fear that we'll injure her or she'll injure herself in her resistance to the administration of the despised glop.
In better news, David will be home from California tonight; Eric arrives tomorrow; the city has reposted the street for cleaning on Monday, so there will not be gigantic boulders of ice, snow, and maple leaves to impede parking; and I retain far more copy-typing skills than I had any right to expect.
A lot of you have far worse travails than the ones I'm complaining of, and I'll be thinking of you even as I fall behind in reading for a week or so.

Date: 2005-11-18 07:06 pm (UTC)I have a spitter (see icon); luckily, she's very small, or I'd never get her medicated.

It's great that you were able to rescue this cat.

Date: 2005-11-18 11:07 pm (UTC)As for Jordan, if you want to throw money at the problem, find out if your vet knows of a compounding pharmacist who does veterinary prescriptions. (They very often do; one of the most common animal liquid antibiotics is also prescribed for children, which is why it has that hideous bubblegum smell, and I assume, taste.)
We did this once, and admittedly, the cat's prescription, $17 from the vet, cost us 40 bucks. But the compounding pharmacist took the unflavored liquid antibiotic and flavored it with Triple Fish, which he said was a combination of salmon, sardine, and some other powerful fishy cat-mojo.
The cat literally sucked it out of the eyedropper and begged for another dose. He and I were both sad when his course of treatment was over.

Date: 2005-11-19 12:08 am (UTC)you've probably tried mixing the antibiotic with the most exquisite of wet cat foods already? if not, you could try putting it into a gelatin capsule and pilling her with it.
