Two hundred sixty words yesterday, and I am very smug because the conversation is finished.

Otherwise not very productive. They keep turning up the gravity. My theory is that my drugs are working a bit too well but not enough too well to allow the dosage to be cut. More exercise, more weight loss, or more dietary change ought to result in one of those phone calls where I say, "My blood pressure is 95 over 65 and YES I'M DIZZY," to which the response should be, "Cut this or that dosage in half." But I'm not there yet.

Eric came over on Wednesday and helped me cook potatoes with spinach, sweet potatoes with cinnamon and cardamom, curried cauliflower, and curried eggplant. It was a very pleasant conversation at dinner, too. He also did some stuff for me in the yard. Most amusingly, he is helping me get rid of the buckthorn. I told him there was one hiding in the shade of the neighbors' huge lilac bush, which overhangs part of the back yard. He told me to come out and admire how large it was. When I did, I saw that he had removed a young tree of a buckthorn that I had not even known was there, rather than the small one-branch bush I was referring to. It's sneaky stuff.

Have been getting extra time at home during the week, since midweek dates don't work with E's schedule. I miss him, but I don't mind the extra time with David and Raphael and the cats.

The Henry Kelsey is blooming madly; about half its buds are open. The parts where it goes over the rose arches are very pretty indeed. But somebody has got to turn down the gravity so I can weed.

Raphael and I have been watching episodes of CSI. My absolute favorite to date is the one with the airplane.

I'm rereading Dorothy Sayers. It's partly truepenny's fault.

And I need to update the report on Afton. Eric reminded me that we heard rustling in the grass and a sound remarkably like clucking chickens, at about the same time we saw the deer.

Is there a recipe for the sweet potatoes, or is it just "boil until done, mash, add cinnamon and cardamom to taste"?

add 1/4 t turmeric, stir to disperse tumeric,

Having recently seen an article that had me wondering - which of these is the proper spelling?

The gravity has been on "high" here, too, accompanied by simply appalling heat (97 degrees in the first week of June being neither normal nor appropriate for the Willamette Valley, thank you very much). I've accomplished next-to-nothing that can't be done at a computer this week.

Fortunately, things are supposed to return to a far more reasonable mid-70s by tomorrow. I'm hoping for increased lightness as well...

I also liked the airplane episode of C.S.I. a lot. I'm a relatively new convert to the show, have been catching up via reruns on TNN on Monday nights and the many episodes that air on CBS. I think my new favorite may be an episode from the second season titled "The Finger". I'm squeamish so I sometimes look away during their "TMI-cam" shots (as my friend Lisa calls them-- she does the recaps of the series and the spinoff for Television Without Pity. I'm having fun reading her recaps after I watch the episodes).

I might also have a slight crush on the guy who plays Warrick on the show. Can't be helped. (I like the rest of the cast too, but don't find them quite as, um, dreamy).

Right there with ya. We recently saw the s3 episode "Fight Night," which has lovely Warricksploitation values -- he makes a classical reference and then promptly strips to his undershirt to show off his muscles. Mens sana in corpore sano, indeed.

Gil's my favorite character as character, though.

I love the recaps; I'll miss them if TWOP really shuts down.

I love Gil. And "Liam the lab tech" (I read the recaps so much I can never remember his actual character name). And . . . well, I like a lot of 'em. My kind of folks.

I'm also impressed by Marg Helgenberger-- I loved her when she was on China Beach, but that was a very different type of role. It was a showy part at times, whereas C.S.I. really requires, um . . . the opposite. Need to underplay in a way (not that they haven't given Catherine her share of personal drama). I like the friendships between Catherine and Gil, and Catherine and Warrick in particular.

One of my pet peeves. Either it's a big year for buckthorn seedlings, or the clump across the back fence has just last year reached fruitful maturity or some such, but I have a zillion new seedlings as well as the sneaky foot-high type (yesterday I hacked a tunnel through forsythia & cedar to crawl to one I spotted by the front fence).

At least it's easy to remove.

K. [I also dislike garlic mustard and mulberry volunteers]

Truepenny is gleefully unrepentant. :)
